Au début du XIXème, Thomas Pöschl (1769-1837), prêtre catholique allemand, s’intéresse au livre du P. Huby, et contacte un confrère Johannes E. Gossner (1773-1858 - qui passera plus tard à la Réforme).

En 1812 paraît à Berlin la première édition de sa version des Images morales du P. Huby, sans doute exécutée d'après la première édition en langue allemande du Miroir de l'âme du pécheur et du juste, Geistlischer Sittenspiegel, édité à Würzburg [Wurtzbourg], en 1732 :
Das Herzbüchlein oder Das Herz des Menschen, ein Tempel Gottes oder eine Werkstätte des Satans, in 10 Figuren sinnbildlich dargestellt. Zur Erweckung und Beförderung des christlichen Sinnes [Le Petit Livre du cœur, ou Le cœur de l'homme, un temple de Dieu ou un atelier de Satan, en dix figures symboliques représentées pour l'édification et l'éveil de l'âme chrétienne], Berlin, Verlag des Missions-Vereins, 1812.

Ce livre a connu de très nombreuses rééditions, sous le titre raccourci :
Das Herz des Menschen, ein Tempel Gottes, oder eine Werkstätte des Satans, in zehn Figuren sinnbildlich dargestellt, zur Erweckung und Beförderung des christlichen Sinnes [Le coeur de l'homme, temple de Dieu ou atelier de Satan, représenté en dix figures allégoriques, pour l'édification et l'instruction de l'âme chrétienne]. This little book was translated from the French, and at the earnest request of some pious persons, was published in the year 1732 at Wurtsburg, by the engraver of the University, with the following title : "Spiritual Mirror of Morality, in which every Christian, who desires his salvation, may view himself, know the state of his soul, and profitably learn to regulate his life according to it." The editor dedicated it to the Right Rev. Bishop of Wurtzburg and Bamberg, Frederic Charles, "with the assured hope, (as he expresses in the dedication), that his highness would please to look upon the work, with his princely and most gracious favour. »

The Publisher, encouraged by the favourable reception and the rapid sale of the last edition of this work, has been induced to offer a second edition with some additions, revised and corrected. And as the present is a time when the Christian world is alive to every sentiment of humanity, and all striving to throw in their mite into the treasury, in order that the grand object, the salvation of the souls of men, may be effected, he feels a consciousness, that in presenting this little work to the public, he is offering something, although small yet substantial and well calculated, if read with serious attention, to stir up the unawakened soul to a sense of his depraved situation, and to beget a spirit of inquiring soul to open his lips in prayer, and press his suit at a throne of grace-believe, and enter into the joy of his Lord. A general outline of the contents cannot be better described, than by the following quotation from Bunyan :
